The Christmas Mood | Decorations & Tips

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

I haven’t posted in what feels like forever and that makes me so sad! However, I’m very excited to bring you guys this weeks post as it is CHRISTMAS-THEMED! Yes, it’s official - this is the first holiday post of the season! I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet but you can never be too early to decorate and plan for the holidays!

Today I wanted to share with you guys some decorating tips as well as a few of my favorite things to ease me in to the holiday season. It’s going to be super similar to this post where I talk about all my favorite things to get me into the fall mood but with CHRISTMAS! So, let’s get started!

Decorating is one of my favorite things to do! And I’d have to say I’m pretty good at it. A lot of my girlfriends are constantly asking me for help on decorating their rooms and it’s fairly simple and inexpensive. Let’s start with some basics.

Bedding: Kate Spade | Letter Board: Target | Backrest: Costco | Lights: Target | Artwork: Target | Picture "Frame" : Home Goods

Ever since I was little I was obsessed with having lights in my room. I remember one year my dad and I spent an afternoon picking out the right Christmas lights and hanging them up all around my room. I’d never been happier and my room and never been cozier. So, this year I did the same. I went to Target and grabbed some 8$ icicle lights and strung them up above my bed to make it look a little bit like a headboard. It adds a cozy touch to the room while providing a bit of mood lighting.

Letter Boards

I've had my letter board for almost a year now and it's one of the cutest, most inexpensive investments I've made. I find letter boards to be a cute way to add personal touches to your room! I love changing out the quotes for different seasons. Plus, they're super cute for Instagram.

Tiny Christmas Trees

I’ll be honest - I whipped out my tiny Christmas tree before it was even Halloween. Early, I know. I adore small Christmas trees and the more of them the better. I bought my 3’ tree while I was still on my DCP and it’s stuck around with me for the last two years. I got some mini ornaments for about 3$ at Target and adorned it some of my favorite Disney ornaments as well!

One trick I learned this year is to add flowers throughout your tree. No, I’m not talking about your typical poinsettia. This year I added sunflowers and tiny pumpkins and big orange flowers since warm tones are kind of my favorite. It’s a really cute, quick, inexpensive, and easy way to add a personal touch to your tree!

Wreaths as Centerpieces

So this one came to me as I was spitballing some ideas for my wedding centerpieces. I went to Michales with my future mother-in-law to get some ideas for wedding decorations and found myself slowly putting together a wreath with beautiful, shimmering rose gold accents and Burgundy flowers. I thought “I probably won’t use a Christmas wreath for my wedding decorations but this is a good start!” And then I though - “Wait, why not just use this for an actual Christmas decoration?”

For this wreath I used some small, battery operated fairy lights that I working into the foliage so you couldn’t see the wire as much, rose gold accents, burgundy flowers, and as a finishing touch, a cluster of battery powered candles in the center to give it some more light. Now, you could hot glue all the decorations into the wreath and actually hang it up, but I think they work wonderfully as table centerpieces!

All together, this little DIY project cost me about 30$ which you might be thinking “That’s a bit expensive for a decoration.” However, at department stores wreaths typically go for 30 or more and all tend to look the same. This way you can personalize your wreath with whatever Christmas colors you choose: red, rose gold, burgundy, white, etc. Plus it’s a fun activity to do with your family and kids!

Getting Cozy

Since I live in a state where it doesn’t typically snow, I have to make the most of the holiday season in different ways. Here are some of my favorite activities and products that put me in the holiday mood.

Fuzzy Flannel

Occasionally, it does get chilly here in December and nothing makes me feel cozier than throwing on a big, fuzzy jacket! This fleece flannel is actually a men’s shirt from Costco but I love using it as a jacket! While I originally bought this just to wear around the house I’m starting to think it could be a really cute layering piece once it starts getting cold outside!

Fuzzy Socks

Everyone LOVES fuzzy socks! Normally, I don’t wear socks when I’m in the house but fuzzy socks just do something to my soul. They cute, they’re cosy, and they’re usually super inexpensive. Target always has their socks for a dollar - score!

A Warm Drink

While I am a hardcore coffee drinker, I still think a cup of hot chocolate is also a great option when you’re curled up in bed, all cozy, watching a movie with your honey or your girlfriends. Maybe one day Edwin will share his World Famous Hot Chocolate recipe with me and I can share it with you!

Movie Days

It might sound super unproductive (which it is) but staying in bed, in your PJs watching some movies and eating popcorn is the epitome of cozy to me! Some of my favorite movies include:

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas

  • Nightmare Before Christmas

  • The Santa Clause

  • Prancer

I also, for some really weird reason, find scary movies also put me in the holiday mood! Please don’t ask why. I’m not really sure of that one either.

If you guys have any decorating tips, please feel free to share them down below! I can’t wait to share more holiday posts and recipes. Let me know what you guys would like to see in future posts and I will see you all next week.

Love Always
